Annabelle is a 2014 American supernatural horror film directed by John R. Leonetti, produced by James Wan, and written by Gary Dauberman. It is both a prequel to and spin-off of The Conjuring.[4] The film stars Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, and Alfre Woodard. The film was released worldwide on October 3, 2014.[5]
Annabelle premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles on September 29, 2014.
The film starts with the same opening scene from The Conjuring, in which two young women and a young man in 1968 are telling Ed and Lorraine Warren about their experience with a doll they believe to be haunted, known as Annabelle.
One year earlier in 1967, John and Mia Gordon are expecting their first child. John gives her a doll that she apparently has been trying to find. Mia loves it and puts it with the rest of her doll collection in their baby's room.
At night, Mia hears a murder happening at the Higgins', their neighbours, home. She tells John and he goes over to investigate. Mia calls the police and is about to head back outside when she is attacked by a woman with Mia's new doll and the male murderer. John and the police arrive and kill the man while the woman kills herself in another room. She left a bloody symbol drawn on the wall while holding Mia's new doll. A drop of her blood falls on the doll's face and sinks into its eye. A news report is shown that the assailants were Annabelle Higgins and her boyfriend. They murdered her parents and are said to have been part of a satanic cult.
The doctors say that Mia's baby is fine but there was damage to her cervix. She is ordered to stay bedridden for the remainder of her pregnancy, so John takes care of Mia as she recovers. Thinking the doll is creepy and involved with the mysterious happenings, Mia asks John to throw it away. He dumps it in a bin outside. Later, a fire starts by itself in the kitchen, before Mia finally notices. She tries to run out of the house but is dragged by an unseen force and she falls on her stomach. A group of men run into the house and pull her out. John, who works at the hospital, runs to find Mia. She is unharmed, but she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, named Lea. The family moves into a new apartment since Mia is afraid to return home. In their new place, Mia unpacks her dolls and finds the new doll, that was previously being thrown out, now known as Annabelle, in one of the boxes. Mia just places it alongside the other dolls. As expected, more strange activity plagues Mia and her new baby.
Mia contacts the detective that told them earlier about the murders Annabelle and her boyfriend committed. He informs her of their history in the cult called The Disciples of the Ram that seeks to summon a demon by claiming a soul. This also explains the symbol that Mia keeps seeing. Mia goes to a bookstore run by a woman named Evelyn. She gets a book called "The Devil's Welcome". From that, Mia determines that the presence that is haunting her wants a soul - Lea's. The couple contacts their church's priest, Father Perez, who takes Annabelle with him to church. The ghost of Annabelle is nearby, along with a demonic-looking creature, who attack him and the doll is gone. John treats Perez at the hospital while Mia meets with Evelyn. Evelyn tells Mia that she had a daughter named Ruby that was around Mia's age when she died. Ruby died in a car accident caused by Evelyn. She was so distraught and guilt-ridden that she attempted suicide by cutting her wrists. However, she claims to have heard Ruby's voice telling her that it wasn't her time.
Perez warns John that it was indeed Annabelle's spirit that caused his injuries, and that she will take a soul that night. John rushes to warn Mia. In the apartment, the demonic presence haunts Mia and Evelyn. It pushes Evelyn out of the apartment and taunts Mia by locking her outside of Lea's room where the baby sits beneath the bookshelf. The demon thretens to kill Lea for her soul, before Mia attempts to kill Annabelle. The demon then asks for Mia's soul instead after Mia screams for what it wants from her. John runs home as Evelyn is trying to open the door. They both break it open to find Mia ready to jump out the window with Annabelle in her hands. John pulls Mia back in before she jumps, saying there must be another way. Evelyn grabs Annabelle and decides to make the sacrifice, knowing this is the way she can atone for Ruby's death. She plunges out of the window and hits the pavement. Lea is found, heard in her crib, safe and sound. John and Mia mourn for Evelyn as they embrace their daughter.
Six months later, the Gordons have moved on and have not seen Annabelle since then. Elsewhere, a woman (the mother of one of the girls in the opening) comes into a store looking for a present for her daughter and ends up purchasing Annabelle. The ending text states that the real Annabelle doll resides in a case in Ed and Lorraine Warren's little museum,which is the opening scene of The Conjuring; and that it's blessed by a priest twice a month. A quote from Lorraine Warren states that evil is real, and while we can contain it, we can never get rid of it. The film ends with the camera lingering on Annabelle as though she'll make a move, before cutting to black.

They are confronted by Hector's brother, Arturo (Richard Cabral), who tells them that Oscar didn't kill her. The next day, Jesse and Hector meet Celia, whom they take to Anna's apartment to have sex. Celia finds a trap door in her apartment leading to the basement and is grabbed by an unseen entity before she breaks free and runs away, while Oscar comes out of it and goes to the bedroom. Jesse arrives back and chases Oscar, revealing that arm has been bitten by Celia and he had killed her. Oscar than commits suicide by falling onto a head of a car.
The friends check the basement and find photos of Oscar, Jesse and his family; one of which suggests that his mother was once friends with Anna. Over a few days of strange activity, Jesse begins acting more strangely - sullen and moody. He goes to Anna's basement to find the cause of a dog's barking noise, only to find ghostly figures, including those of young Katie and Kristi (Chloe Csengery and Jessica Tyler Brown). He ends up back in his own room - now even more sullen and dark.

In May 2011, representatives from MGM and Screen Gems announced that the two companies were producing a film remake of Carrie. The two studios hired Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to write a screenplay that delivers "a more faithful adaption" of King's novel—Aguirre-Sacasa previously adapted King’s work The Stand into a comic book in 2008.
Upon hearing of the new adaptation, King remarked, "The real question is why, when the original was so good?" He also suggested Lindsay Lohan for the main role and stated that "it [the film] would certainly be fun to cast". Actress Sissy Spacek, who played Carrie in de Palma's adaptation, expressed an opinion on the choice of Lohan for the character of Carrie White, stating that she "was like, 'Oh my God, she's really a beautiful girl' and so I was very flattered that they were casting someone to look like me instead of the real Carrie described in the book. It's gonna be real interesting." In March 2012, the role of Carrie White was offered to Chloë Grace Moretz, who accepted the role.
Kimberly Peirce is the film's director, while Moore stars as Margaret White and Gabriella Wilde appears in the role of Sue Snell.[3] Alex Russell, who appears in the film Chronicle, and Broadway actor Ansel Elgort are also members of the main cast, and Judy Greer plays the gym teacher Miss Desjardin.

In 1986, a medium named Carl calls upon his friend Elise to help discover what is haunting Lorraine Lambert's son, Josh. After hypnotizing Josh, Elise attempts to find the location of Josh's "friend" (an old woman who appears in photographs of Josh) through playing Hot or Cold. After warnings from Josh, Elise makes her way to his bedroom closet and is scratched along the arm. As a result, Lorraine, Carl, and Elise agree that making Josh forget his astral projection abilities is the best thing to do.
Twenty-five years later, Josh's wife Renai is under questioning by a police detective about the death of Elise. Unsettled by the theory that her husband is a killer, Renai rejoins with her family as they relocate to Lorraine's house. As everyone goes to bed, Renai begins witnessing strange occurrences throughout the house. Josh, who is suspected by Renai to be inhabited by the old woman, tells her not to worry and that everything will be okay.
The next day, Renai sees a woman wearing a white dress sitting in the living room. Following the cries of her baby throughout the house, Renai comes face-to-face with the woman in white and is knocked unconscious. During this time, Lorraine visits Elise's colleagues Specks and Tucker to seek an explanation behind the strange events. In doing so, they call upon Carl, who listens to Lorraine's story and attempts to contact Elise on the other side using word-dice. Through the dice, they are told to find answers at the "Our Lady of Angels" hospital (the former workplace of Lorraine). Led through the hospital to the ICU, Lorraine recounts a story of a patient named Parker Crane, who committed suicide by jumping off the roof many years ago. The four decide that Elise is leading them to this man's house. After breaking into Parker's home, they find a black gown and veil as well as newspaper clippings about a man referred to as "The Dark Bride" who kidnapped and murdered several people while dressed as a woman. It is then revealed to them that it was not Elise speaking through the dice, but actually Parker's mother.
After Renai recovers with Josh at her side, Lorraine arrives home and insists that she, Renai, and the kids get away from Josh. In the car, she explains the origin of "The Dark Bride" and the theory that the real Josh is trapped in the Further. At this same moment, Carl arrives at the house to drug the possessed Josh while Specks and Tucker monitor from their van parked outside. The plan fails, however, and Josh incapacitates Carl, Specks and Tucker. After receiving a message saying everything is okay, Lorraine and Renai return to the house only to be ambushed by Josh. Locking Lorraine in the closet, Josh attempts to choke Renai but is knocked over the head with a bat by Dalton, who has returned home with Foster. Renai and the children then escape to the basement where they barricade themselves in the laundry room. Lying down in a corner with a tin can telephone, Dalton falls asleep and returns to the Further to rescue his father. Simultaneously, Josh begins making his way into the room by hammering through the drywall.
Meanwhile, in the Further, the real Josh stumbles upon Carl and the two look for Elise, finding her at the Lambert's previous home. The three then proceed to Parker's house where they witness his mother, the woman in white, abusing him as a child in attempt to convince him that he's a girl. The mother notices the group observing and locks Carl and Elise out of the room. When Josh turns around, the room is dark and filled with standing bodies covered by sheets. Upon finding Parker's mother amongst the bodies, the two engage in a fight. Just as the mother is about to choke Josh to death, Elise enters the room with the help of young Parker and saves Josh by hitting the mother from behind with a rocking horse. After the three escape the house, they are met up by Dalton who assists Carl and Josh in returning to real time by following the string from the tin can telephone.
Josh, who collapsed in real time after Parker's mother was hit by the rocking horse, and Dalton wake up as themselves, a feeling of relief encompasses the room. Carl then hypnotizes Dalton and Josh to forget their astral projection abilities and everything that happened with it. The screen fades to white and Specks and Tucker are shown knocking on the door to another home. As they speak with the parents of the house about their daughter Allison, Elise walks in to speak to a comatose Allison. A creaking noise and shadow rises behind the girl just as Elise shockingly exclaims, "Oh my God".
